Fitbit Air Band Size & Fit Guide: How to Wear It Right in the UAE

Find the right Fitbit Air band size, learn how to wear the screenless tracker for accurate heart rate and sleep data, and keep it fresh in UAE heat, sweat and pool water.

The Google Fitbit Air has no screen and no buttons, so how it sits on your wrist matters more than with most wearables. The sensor on the underside does all the work: heart rate, SpO2, skin-temperature variation and sleep. If the fit is wrong, the data is weaker. This guide covers band sizes, how to wear the Fitbit Air correctly, how to swap bands, and how to care for it in UAE heat, sweat and pool water.

Fitbit Air band sizes at a glance

According to Google's official specs, the Fitbit Air ships with a woven textile band and a stainless steel buckle. Here is how the main band types compare:

Band type Size Fits wrists
Textile band (in the box) One size 130–210 mm
Performance Loop Band (accessory, recycled polyester & elastane) One size, micro-adjustable 130–210 mm
Silicone band (accessory) Small / Large 130–175 mm / 165–210 mm

The tracker itself is small: about 34.9 × 17 × 8.3 mm, weighing 5.2 g on its own and around 12 g with a band. For most adults, the band in the box will fit without any extra purchase.

How to measure your wrist

  1. Wrap a strip of paper or a piece of string around your wrist, just above the wrist bone.
  2. Mark where it overlaps, then lay it flat and measure in millimetres.
  3. If you are between 130 and 210 mm, the standard textile band will fit you.

How to wear the Fitbit Air for accurate tracking

Google's setup guide gives clear steps:

  • Top of the wrist: wear it on top of your wrist, like a watch, positioned behind your wrist bone.
  • Snug, not tight: push down on the metal loop while pulling back on the band until it feels comfortably snug. You should just be able to slide your pinky finger between the band and your wrist.
  • No sliding: the tracker shouldn't slide up and down or rotate around your wrist. The sensor needs constant skin contact.
  • Take off bracelets on the same arm before putting it on.

For workouts, Fitbit's general product care advice is to move the band slightly higher, about 2–3 finger widths above the wrist bone, for a secure fit. Then loosen it and lower it again afterwards. For sleep, just wear it as normal; the Fitbit Air tracks sleep automatically once paired.

Note: the Fitbit Air is a wellness device. Its readings, including AFib alerts, are not a medical diagnosis.

Swapping bands in under a minute

  1. Push firmly on the top of the tracker to pop it out of its current band.
  2. Press it into the new band until it snaps into place, lining up the small alignment markings on the band and the tracker.
  3. Double-tap the top of the tracker firmly. If an LED flash appears, it is seated correctly. If not, rotate it and try again.

Google recommends using Fitbit-branded or Fitbit-authorised bands only. Cheap third-party bands may not hold the tracker properly or may irritate your skin.

UAE care tips: heat, sweat, sand and water

  • Rinse after sweaty sessions. Outdoor runs at Kite Beach or Al Qudra mean a lot of sweat. Wash the band with fresh water (a mild hypoallergenic soap is fine for most bands) when it is dirty or starts to smell.
  • Sunscreen and repellent: take the tracker off before applying sunscreen or insect repellent sprays, and avoid direct contact.
  • Pool and sea: the Fitbit Air is water resistant to 50 m. After a swim in a chlorinated pool or the sea, rinse with fresh water and dry it fully before wearing again. Our swimming with Fitbit Air guide has more detail.
  • Wudu and daily washing: splashes are fine, but dry the band afterwards. A dry, clean band is better for your skin.
  • Give your skin a break: remove it for an hour or so after long wear, for example while showering. If you notice redness, soreness or tingling, take it off.
  • Long sleeves: with no screen, the Fitbit Air sits flat and discreetly under a kandura, abaya or shirt cuff.

FAQ

Will the Fitbit Air fit a small or large wrist?

The included textile band fits wrists from 130 to 210 mm, which covers most adults. Google also lists silicone accessory bands in Small (130–175 mm) and Large (165–210 mm).

Should I wear it on my left or right wrist?

Either works. What matters most is placement on top of the wrist, behind the wrist bone, with constant skin contact.

Can I sleep with the band tight?

No need. Keep it comfortably snug with room for your pinky finger. Too tight can be uncomfortable overnight and doesn't improve tracking.
