Starlink "At Capacity" in Dubai & Abu Dhabi: Waitlist Explained and Your Options

Seeing "Starlink is at capacity" when you order in the UAE? Here is what the message and the AED 285.71 waitlist deposit mean, plus practical options while you wait.

Many people in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah who try to order Starlink today see a message that says Starlink service is "currently at capacity" in their area. Then they are offered a spot on a waitlist. This guide explains what that message means, what the waitlist deposit is, and the practical options you have while you wait. We wrote it for UAE buyers.

What "at capacity" means

Starlink splits coverage into areas, often called "cells." Each cell can only serve so many users before speeds drop for everyone. When a cell is full, Starlink stops new residential sign-ups there. People who already have service keep it.

In late August 2026, Khaleej Times, Gulf News and The National all reported that Starlink's UAE order page was showing "at capacity" for many addresses. Areas named in those reports included Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Starlink's own order page says it "cannot provide an estimated timeframe for service availability" and that its teams are working to add capacity. Nobody can promise when a full area will open again, and that includes us.

Capacity depends on the address. A villa in a remote area or in another emirate may still be available while a busy part of Dubai is full. So always check your exact address on starlink.com.

The waitlist deposit in simple terms

  • Amount: The UAE order page shows an estimated deposit of about AED 285.71 (tax inclusive), as reported in August 2026. The final amount can change once your address is confirmed.
  • What it does: It holds your place in the queue for that address. Gulf News reports that it is credited toward the kit price when service opens.
  • Before you pay: Read the refund and cancellation terms on the order page. Starlink's terms are what count, not news reports or social media posts.

Your options while you wait

Roam (portable) plan Camping, desert trips, boats, travel within licensed countries Roam is meant for travel and gets lower priority in busy areas. Check whether it can be ordered for your use in the Starlink app.
Business plan Companies, remote sites, events Pricing and availability differ from residential. Ask Starlink, or contact us for hardware.

A note on Roam plans

Local reports list UAE Roam prices at roughly AED 190 to AED 370 a month, depending on the data allowance. However, published figures differ between sources. Treat these as estimates and confirm current prices in the Starlink app before you buy. Roam is not a backdoor into a full residential cell. It runs at lower priority, so speeds can be slower when the area is busy. Also, in-motion use on land is not permitted in the UAE, so use it parked, not while driving.

Should you buy the hardware now?

That depends on how you plan to use it.

  • For a home in a full area: There is no rush. A kit without an active plan won't give you home internet. Join the waitlist first, then buy the hardware when your address opens.
  • For travel, camping or boats: A portable kit like the Starlink Mini makes sense if a Roam or maritime plan is available to you. It weighs about 1.1 kg, draws 25 to 40 W on average, and runs on 12 to 48 V DC or USB-C PD (100 W).
  • For any purchase: Make sure the kit can be activated on a UAE account. Starlink has warned that kits from grey markets may not activate. Ask the seller about this before you pay.

Practical UAE tips

  1. Check more than one address. If you have a farm, a holiday home or an office in another emirate, check each address separately.
  2. Get building approval early. Ask your landlord or building management about dish mounting while you wait, so you are ready when capacity opens.
  3. Plan for the summer heat. Pick a spot with a clear view of the sky and some airflow. Our troubleshooting guide covers heat and dust.
  4. Know the VoIP rules. Local reports say the same UAE VoIP rules apply on Starlink as on other networks. Apps like Botim, Teams and Zoom work, and WhatsApp calling is not expected to.

FAQ

How long is the Starlink waitlist in Dubai?

Nobody knows. Starlink says it cannot give a timeframe. Some areas may open sooner than others as capacity is added.

Is the waitlist deposit refundable?

Check the terms shown on the Starlink order page before you pay. They are the only reliable source, and they can change.

Can I use a Roam plan at home instead?

Roam is designed for travel, has lower priority in busy areas, and its terms are set by Starlink. Read the plan terms in the Starlink app before you rely on it as a home connection.

Does "at capacity" mean Starlink is not legal in my area?

No. Starlink holds a 10-year licence from the TDRA. "At capacity" only means the network in your area is full for new residential users right now.
