Buying Starlink in Dubai to Use Abroad: Export & Travel Guide for Africa and South Asia

Planning to take a Starlink kit from Dubai to Africa or South Asia? Here is what to check first: destination licensing, import rules, Roam's two-month limit and current store prices.

Cargo ships docked at a port, taking Starlink from Dubai abroad

Dubai is a trading hub, and we get the same question almost every week: "Can I buy Starlink in Dubai and use it back home?" Sometimes it is a family sending a kit to relatives in Kenya or Bangladesh. Sometimes it is a trader planning to ship a carton of kits to Africa or South Asia. The hardware travels easily. Whether it works legally at the other end depends on the destination country. This guide explains what to check before you buy, pack or ship.

The short answer

A Starlink kit bought in the UAE is the same hardware sold elsewhere. What matters is whether Starlink is licensed in the country where you will use it, and whether that country lets you import the terminal. Starlink itself warns that service may be restricted if you use it in a market where it is not yet available, so always check the official coverage map at starlink.com/map first.

Where Starlink stands in popular export markets

Licensing changes fast. The table below summarises public reports as of mid-September 2026. Treat it as a starting point and confirm with the national regulator before you ship.

Country Reported status What it means for you
Kenya Approved, service live Kits can be activated locally; check import and customs rules
Nigeria Approved, service live Same as above; confirm equipment approval and duties
Zimbabwe Cleared by POTRAZ (2023) Service available; check customs paperwork
Bangladesh Licensed by BTRC (April 2025) Service authorised; confirm terminal import rules
India Clearances reported, consumer launch pending Do not assume a kit from Dubai can be activated yet
Pakistan Pending regulatory approval; no service licence Not available; wait for an official licence
South Africa No licence Not available
Namibia Application rejected; unlicensed use prohibited Do not ship for local use
Stacked shipping containers at a port, exporting Starlink kits from Dubai
Shipping Starlink kits from Dubai is simple. Getting them licensed for use at the destination is the part to check.

Travelling with your own Starlink (Roam plans)

If you already use Starlink and want to take it on a trip, the Roam plan is built for that. Starlink's rules allow international use on Roam for up to two months at a time. If you stay longer, Starlink expects you to update your registered address, and that can mean moving your account to the new country. Service can be restricted if you ignore this.

Two UAE-specific reminders:

  • Do not use Starlink while driving on UAE roads. In-motion use on land is not permitted in the UAE. Set up when parked or camped.
  • Check every border on a road trip. A GCC or regional trip can cross countries with different rules. Check each country on the coverage map before you leave.

Buying kits in Dubai to ship abroad: a checklist

  1. Confirm the destination licence. Use Starlink's map and the national telecom regulator's website. Press reports are useful, but the regulator has the final word.
  2. Check equipment approval and import rules. Many countries need radio equipment to be type-approved before customs will release it. Ask your clearing agent before shipping.
  3. Plan the subscription. The kit is only half the cost. The customer will pay a monthly plan in their own country, in local currency, through the Starlink app.
  4. Match the kit to the use. Starlink Mini suits travellers, small offices and backup use. The Standard kit suits fixed homes and busier sites. Our Mini vs Standard guide explains the difference.
  5. Keep your invoice. A proper tax invoice from a UAE store helps with customs, warranty questions and resale.

Buying in bulk?

If you are a reseller or project buyer shipping several units, contact our team through the wholesale page. Tell us the destination country and quantity, and we will help with invoicing and packing. Please confirm the licensing side with your local regulator, as we cannot activate service in markets where Starlink is not authorised.

FAQ

Will a Starlink kit bought in Dubai work in my home country?

The hardware is the same worldwide, but service only works properly where Starlink is licensed. Check the official coverage map and your national regulator before you buy.

Can I use my UAE Starlink plan abroad?

Roam plans allow international use for up to two months at a time. For longer stays, Starlink expects you to update your address, which may mean moving your account. Confirm current plan terms in the Starlink app.

Is Starlink available in Pakistan or India yet?

As of mid-September 2026, Pakistan was still listed as pending regulatory approval, and India had reported clearances but no full consumer launch. Check again before buying, as this can change.

Do you ship Starlink kits outside the UAE?

Please contact us with your destination and quantity, and we will confirm what we can arrange.
