You have your Starlink kit. Now comes the part most buyers think about too late: where and how to mount it, and which extras you actually need. In the UAE, the right mount makes a big difference. Rooftops get very hot, wind picks up in winter, and a dish sitting on the ground next to a villa wall usually loses part of its sky view. This guide covers the official Starlink mounts, cables, power and router accessories, and which ones suit UAE villas, farms, boats and desert trips.
First: what you get in the box
Both kits come ready to use without extra hardware. The Starlink Mini has a built-in Wi-Fi router and a kickstand, so you can place it flat on a terrace or car bonnet and connect. The Standard kit comes with its own stand, a separate router and power supply. For a quick test or a weekend camp, that is all you need. Accessories matter when you want a permanent, raised, or vehicle installation, or a longer cable run.

Which mount suits a UAE home?
Most UAE villas have flat concrete roofs, not shingled slopes. For a flat roof, the most common approach is a short metal pole on a weighted or bolted base with the pipe adapter, or a wall mount on a parapet. Before drilling into a roof or façade, check your building, community or landlord rules. Many communities have rules about what can be fixed to the outside of a villa.
For apartments, a balcony install with the kickstand often works if the balcony faces open sky. For tower roofs, ask building management first.
Vehicle mounts: an important UAE rule
Roof rack and mobility mounts are popular for desert trips. But remember: in-motion use on land is not permitted in the UAE. A roof rack mount is great for getting the dish up high and out of the sand when you are parked at camp. Do not use Starlink while driving. Power accessories
- Mini Car Adapter (12V): Starlink's official adapter powers the Mini over USB-C from a standard 12–24V car auxiliary (cigarette lighter) socket and comes with a 5 m USB-C cable. - Mini USB-C cable (5 m): Needs a 100W (20V/5A) USB-C PD source, such as a good power bank or power station. It is meant for powering the Mini, not for charging phones.
- DC-DC power supply (Standard V4X): Runs the Standard dish directly from a DC source like a battery, boat or RV, without an inverter.

Cables and Wi-Fi range
Need the dish on the roof but the router inside? Starlink sells longer cables: 15 m and 45 m Starlink cables for the Standard kit, and a 15 m Mini Ethernet cable to connect the Mini to a Starlink or third-party router. For big villas, Starlink's Router Mini can act as a mesh node, and Starlink recommends a wired link between routers for the best performance.
UAE heat tip: keep routers and power supplies indoors or in shade. Do not leave them in a closed metal box on the roof in summer. Route cables with the clips supplied, and avoid sharp bends where cables pass through windows or doors.
Practical buying tips for UAE customers
- Match the accessory to your kit. Mini, Standard (V4) and Standard (V4X) accessories are not all interchangeable.
- Use metal poles for pipe adapters. Plastic pipes can bend in wind and sun.
- Plan the cable route first. Measure from dish to router before choosing a cable length.
- Run the obstruction check in the Starlink app before you drill anything.
