Starlink hardware is built to sit outside in sun, wind and dust, but like any electronics it can occasionally arrive faulty or fail later. If you buy a Starlink kit in the UAE, it helps to know in advance how returns, warranty claims and replacements work, so a problem costs you days, not weeks. This guide explains the basics in plain English, with tips for UAE buyers.
Note: Starlink's warranty terms can change and differ by kit and country. Always check the current terms in your Starlink account and the Starlink app before relying on them.
Return window vs warranty: two different things
People often mix these up. A return is when you send back an item you don't want (or that arrived wrong) shortly after buying it. A warranty claim is when the hardware develops a fault during normal use within the warranty period.
- Return window – set by the seller. At Babar Dewan Electronics, our refund policy allows returns within 7 days of delivery for unused items in original condition, with all packaging and accessories.
- Manufacturer warranty – set by Starlink. All new products we sell carry the manufacturer's warranty, and you can raise a claim with the manufacturer or through our store.
What Starlink's limited warranty covers
According to Starlink's published Limited Warranty document, the kit is warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty period depends on the kit type and the country. For example, the document lists 24 months for Standard kits in the EU and UK and 12 months elsewhere, counted from the purchase date. Terms for newer kits such as Starlink Mini may differ, so confirm the period shown for your kit in your Starlink account.
| Usually covered | Usually NOT covered |
|---|---|
| Manufacturing defects in the dish (antenna) | Misuse, accidents, drops, vandalism or neglect |
| Faulty router or power supply from the original kit | Opening, repairing or modifying the hardware yourself |
| Original Starlink cables that fail in normal use | Damage from weather events, lightning, flooding or fire |
| Hardware that doesn't perform as designed | Covering the dish with a third-party radome or enclosure |
The practical lesson for the UAE: use the hardware as designed. Don't cut and re-join cables, don't open the dish or router, and don't build a box around the antenna to "protect" it from the sun. Starlink Mini, for example, is rated IP67 and for operating temperatures from -30°C to 50°C. On very hot days, read our heat and dust troubleshooting guide before assuming a fault.
Before you claim: rule out the common non-faults
Many "broken" Starlinks are actually set-up issues. Check these first:
- Obstructions – run the obstruction check in the Starlink app. Buildings, palm trees and walls can cause drop-outs.
- Power – for Starlink Mini, use a supply that can deliver enough power (12–48V DC, or USB-C PD rated 100W). A weak power bank or car socket can cause reboots. See our power guide.
- Account and service – make sure your kit is activated and your plan is active. Note that Starlink has listed some UAE areas as "at capacity" with a waitlist, which is a service issue, not a hardware fault.
- Reboot – power-cycle the kit and check the app for alerts.
How to make a warranty claim
Starlink's warranty document says claims are made through the Starlink customer support portal with a detailed description of the problem. A smooth claim usually looks like this:
- Log in to your Starlink account (or the app) and open a support ticket.
- Describe the fault clearly: when it started, what the app shows, and what you have already tried.
- Attach evidence: screenshots of app alerts, speed tests and photos of the hardware.
- Follow Starlink's instructions. If a fault is confirmed, the warranty says Starlink will typically repair or replace the hardware.
If you bought from us and you're unsure where to start, contact our team with your order number. We can help you check whether it's a set-up issue and guide you through the claim.
UAE buyer checklist
- Keep your invoice – the warranty period runs from the purchase date, so proof of purchase matters.
- Inspect on delivery – check the box and contents on day one, while you are inside the 7-day return window.
- Keep all packaging – returns need the original box, accessories and manuals.
- Buy genuine accessories – use original or compatible accessories from a trusted seller, such as our Starlink range.
- Be careful with used kits – a second-hand kit may have less warranty left. Read our used Starlink checklist first.
Our current Starlink Mini price is AED 1,499, with free standard delivery across the UAE on orders over AED 500. For full pricing and legality details, see our Starlink Mini UAE price guide. Businesses ordering several kits can ask about wholesale pricing.
