Fitbit Air Setup Guide: Pair It with Google Health in the UAE

New Fitbit Air? Here's how to pair it with the Google Health app in the UAE, which settings to check in your first week, and what's free versus Google Health Premium.

Person holding a smartphone to set up the Fitbit Air in the Google Health app

Google's Fitbit Air has no screen and no buttons, so everything you do with it happens in one place: the Google Health app on your phone. That makes setup simple, but it also means a few small mistakes (an old app version, a flat battery, the wrong band size) can slow you down. This guide walks UAE buyers through setting up a new Fitbit Air step by step, plus the settings worth changing in your first week.

Before you start: what you need

According to Google's official specs, the Fitbit Air needs:

  • A smartphone running Android 11 or newer or iOS 16.4 or newer
  • A Google Account (you can create one during setup)
  • The Google Health app, which replaces the old Fitbit app. Fitbit Air needs the new Google Health app (version 5.0 or later) to pair.
  • Bluetooth turned on, an internet connection and location permission enabled for the app

In the box you get the tracker, a wristband and a USB-C charging cable. A wall adapter isn't included, so any USB-C phone charger you already own will do.

Step-by-step: pairing your Fitbit Air

  1. Charge it first. Google's setup guide says to put the device on its charger before you begin. A full charge takes about 90 minutes, but even 5 minutes gives you roughly a day of use, which is plenty for setup.
  2. Install or update Google Health. Get it from Google Play or the App Store. If you already had the Fitbit app, it changes into Google Health when it updates. If you see an "app update required" message, update the app and try again.
  3. Sign in with Google. Open the app, tap Sign in with Google, choose your account (or create one) and follow the prompts. On Android, a setup notification may pop up as soon as the tracker is charging nearby. You can tap that instead.
  4. Add the device. If you already use Google Health, tap Connections at the top left, then Add device, pick Fitbit Air and follow the on-screen steps.
  5. Enter your profile details. Height, weight and sex are used to estimate stride length, distance, basal metabolic rate and calories burned. Accurate numbers mean better step and calorie estimates.
  6. Confirm it's connected. Once paired, the Fitbit Air appears under Devices with its last sync time and battery level.

First-week settings worth checking

Setting / habit Why it matters in the UAE
Keep your phone's Bluetooth and location on The Air syncs over Bluetooth (up to about 30 ft) and uses your phone's GPS for outdoor runs and walks, for example along the Corniche or at Kite Beach.
Pick the right band size The textile band fits 130–210 mm wrists. A snug fit is better for heart rate readings, especially during summer workouts when you sweat a lot.
Wear it to bed for a few nights Sleep, HRV, SpO2 and skin-temperature variation need a few nights of data before trends become useful. This helps with late nights and shifting routines, like during Ramadan.
Set a charging routine Battery lasts up to 7 days. A 5-minute top-up while you shower or get ready keeps you going without missing sleep data.
Rinse and dry after the pool or beach It's water resistant to 50 m, but Google advises drying the band after it gets wet. Rinse off salt water and sunscreen.

Free features vs Google Health Premium

Core tracking is free in the Google Health app: steps, heart rate, sleep, Active Zone Minutes, HRV, SpO2 and more. Google Health Premium is an optional subscription that adds the Gemini-powered Health Coach, adaptive fitness plans and deeper sleep insights. On Google's own store, Fitbit Air includes a Premium trial in some countries, which you activate in the app after pairing. Trial offers, pricing and availability vary by country and by where you bought the device, so check what the app offers on your account. You don't need Premium to use the Fitbit Air.

Note: Fitbit Air is a wellness device. Its AFib alerts and health readings are not a medical diagnosis. Talk to a doctor about any health concerns.

Already wearing a Pixel Watch?

Google Health lets one account use one Pixel Watch and one Fitbit Air together. Add the second device through Connections → Add more devices. The app works out which device you're wearing and combines steps, sleep and heart rate into one set of numbers. One option is to wear the watch during the day and the light, screenless Air at night.

Troubleshooting quick fixes

  • Won't pair: update Google Health, make sure the tracker is charging, and turn Bluetooth off and on.
  • Not syncing: open the app with Bluetooth and location on, and keep the phone close.
  • Want to switch phones? Sign in to Google Health with the same Google Account on the new phone and follow the prompts under Connections to reconnect.
