Shopping for a wearable in Dubai usually comes down to one question: do you want a full smartwatch, or a simple tracker that collects your health data and stays out of the way? The Google Fitbit Air and the Apple Watch are two very different answers. This guide compares them side by side so UAE buyers can pick the one that fits their phone, routine and budget.
The short answer
Choose the Fitbit Air if you want 24/7 health and sleep tracking, about a week of battery and a very light band, and you don't need a screen. Choose an Apple Watch if you use an iPhone and want notifications, apps, built-in GPS, payments and calls on your wrist, and you're happy to charge it almost every day.

Design and comfort
The Fitbit Air is a small pod (about 35 × 17 × 8 mm) in a soft textile band that fits wrists from 130 to 210 mm. With no screen to light up, it's easy to wear to bed, under a shirt cuff at the office, or alongside a classic watch on the other wrist. Many people in Dubai wear a dress watch for work and a tracker for health, and the Air suits that well.
The Apple Watch is a full smartwatch with a bright screen, so you can check the time, messages and workout stats at a glance. That screen is the main reason to buy one, and also the reason it needs charging far more often.
Battery life in real UAE routines
Battery is the biggest practical difference. Google rates the Fitbit Air at up to 7 days, and a 5-minute top-up gives roughly a day of use. Apple rates the Series 11 at up to 24 hours. If you want sleep tracking every night, an Apple Watch means finding a daily charging window, for example while you shower or get ready in the morning. With the Air you can usually charge once a week. Our Fitbit Air battery and charging tips explain how to get the most from each charge.
Health and fitness tracking
Both devices track heart rate, sleep and workouts well enough for everyday wellness. The Fitbit Air feeds the Google Health app with Readiness, Cardio Load, sleep stages, HRV and skin-temperature trends. The Apple Watch adds on-screen workout views and built-in GPS, which helps if you run at Kite Beach or cycle at Al Qudra without your phone.
The Air uses your phone's GPS, so carry your phone on outdoor runs if you want accurate route maps.
Please note: both are wellness devices. AFib and irregular rhythm alerts are not a medical diagnosis. Always talk to a doctor about any health concerns.
Phone compatibility: the deciding factor for many
The Apple Watch only works with an iPhone. The Fitbit Air works with both Android and iPhone through the Google Health app. That matters a lot in the UAE, where many households use a mix of Samsung, Google Pixel and iPhone. If you might switch phones in the next couple of years, the Air keeps your health history with you.
Which one should you buy?
- Fitbit Air: best for sleep tracking, long battery life, light weight, Android users, and people who already wear a regular watch.
- Apple Watch Series 11: best for iPhone users who want notifications, Apple Pay, calls and built-in GPS on the wrist.
- Apple Watch SE 3: a lower-cost way into the Apple Watch for iPhone users who don't need every health feature.
Practical tips for UAE buyers
- Summer heat: a light textile band like the Air's can feel more comfortable on hot outdoor walks. Rinse and dry it after sweaty sessions.
- Pool days: both are water resistant to 50 m. Dry the band after swimming.
- Gifting: the Fitbit Air works with any recent phone, so it's a safe gift when you don't know if someone uses Android or iPhone.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Fitbit Air work with an iPhone?
Yes. Google lists support for iOS 16.4 or later, as well as Android 11 or later, using the Google Health app.
Can I use the Fitbit Air and an Apple Watch together?
You can wear both, but they sync to different apps (Google Health and Apple Health), so your data will be split. Most people choose one as their main tracker.
Do I need a subscription for the Fitbit Air?
No. Core tracking is free in the Google Health app. Google Health Premium is optional and adds the Gemini-powered coach and deeper insights. Google's store page mentions a Premium trial with the device; check the terms in the app.
Which is better for sleep tracking?
Both track sleep, but the Fitbit Air is lighter and lasts up to 7 days, so it's easier to wear every night without worrying about charging.
